About Ben Adams Photography

Curiosity has shaped my photography from the very beginning.

Photography, for me, has always been about understanding people, places and the stories that connect them. Whether I'm documenting a wedding, photographing a family with their dog, working alongside engineers preparing a rocket launch or capturing volunteers supporting their community, I'm drawn to the moments that reveal something genuine.

Rather than simply recording events, I aim to create photographs that preserve atmosphere, relationships and the quiet details that often become the most meaningful with time.

From Passion to Profession

Ben Adams Photography was founded in 2017, shortly after I moved from Oxford to Leeds and turned a lifelong passion into a full-time career. What began by photographing rescue animals for the RSPCA has grown into a multi-disciplinary photography practice spanning weddings, family life, editorial work and STEM documentation.

Today I work throughout Yorkshire and across the UK with private clients, universities, charities, research organisations and aerospace projects, creating photography that is both visually engaging and genuinely useful.

Education & Experience

I hold a BA (Hons) in Photography from Leeds City College and an MA in Photography from Falmouth University, where my research explored documentary photography, science communication and the relationship between photography and engineering.

Over the years I've been fortunate to work with organisations including ESERO-UK, STEM Learning, the RSPCA, Snowdonia Aerospace, Leeds University Rocketry Association and ADS UKROC. My photography has also been featured by BBC Scotland and the Yorkshire Evening Post.

While every assignment is different, each one is approached with the same values: curiosity, preparation and respect for the people involved.

A Documentary Approach

I work quietly and patiently, allowing people to remain focused on what they are doing rather than the camera. Whether photographing scientific research, a wedding ceremony or a family spending time together, I believe the strongest photographs come from observation rather than interruption.

This documentary approach allows genuine moments to unfold naturally while producing images that remain honest, engaging and meaningful.

Beyond the Camera

Away from photography, I'm fascinated by science, engineering, astronomy and technology. Growing up with a love of science fiction, space exploration and creative world-building helped shape the way I look at the world today, encouraging me to ask questions, explore new ideas and look beyond the obvious.

Those interests naturally led me towards photographing universities, aerospace projects and STEM outreach, where curiosity and creativity work hand in hand. They also continue to influence my personal projects and the essays found throughout the Behind the Lens section of this website.

Looking Ahead

Photography continues to introduce me to remarkable people and places. Whether working with families, documenting scientific research, supporting charities or photographing engineering projects, my aim remains the same: to create thoughtful, honest photography that helps preserve stories worth remembering.

Every assignment offers an opportunity to learn something new, and that curiosity continues to shape both my photography and the way I see the world.
